Popular target sizes

Reduce a photo to under 100 KB

Type 100 in the target box and pick KB, or press the ready 100 KB button. Application forms and registration pages often ask for this size.

Reduce a photo to under 200 KB

There is a ready 200 KB button. The photo keeps better quality than at 100 KB.

Reduce a photo to under 500 KB

A balanced target for email attachments and website uploads. A photo taken with a phone usually fits under 500 KB without visible loss.

Reduce a photo to under 1 MB

Pick MB and type 1, or press the ready 1 MB button. There are also 2, 3, 4 and 5 MB buttons for larger targets.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce the size of a photo?

Choose your photo, set the target size (for example 200 KB) and press "Compress". The tool sets the quality to the highest value that fits the target and, if needed, reduces the pixel size slightly.

Can I reduce a photo to 100 KB or 50 KB?

Yes. There are ready buttons for 50, 100, 200, 250, 500 and 750 KB and for 1 to 5 MB. You can also type any value or use the − and + buttons. With very small targets the photo may visibly shrink because it has to fit in less data.

Does quality drop when I compress?

JPG compression always discards some information. The tool keeps this to a minimum by choosing the highest quality that reaches the target. If the target is already bigger than the file, the file is left alone.

How do I reduce the size of a PNG?

PNG is lossless, so quality settings do not shrink it. This tool saves the compressed file as JPG, so transparent areas of a PNG become white. If you need transparency, you can reduce the pixel size in the Edit Photo tool.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser, your photos are not uploaded anywhere beyond your device. The saved file contains no location or camera data.

How are KB and MB calculated?

1 KB is 1000 bytes and 1 MB is 1000 KB. This matches the sizes you see in your phone gallery and on your computer. If you ask for 100 KB, the file comes out under 100,000 bytes.
